LaToya Singletary has been appointed associate director of development at the University of Arizona College of Engineering, where she is working to strengthen connections with alumni in southern Arizona.

"I'm excited about reconnecting alumni who have lost touch with the College and finding out what they've been up to since graduation," Singletary said.

She joins the College's senior development directors Mike McKelvey and Margie Puerta Edson, senior development program coordinator Claudia Arias, and the team's newest member, administrative associate Ines Anderson.

Knowing How Engineers Are Wired

While growing up in a small town in North Carolina, Singletary often visited family in Ann Arbor and resolved to attend the University of Michigan there. Always good in math and science, she earned her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1999.

After college she worked on semiconductors and digital signal processing for Texas Instruments and later Lucent, now Nokia, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In 2009 she returned to her alma mater to work as assistant director of annual giving and alumni relations and, later, as assistant director of advancement at Michigan's School of Kinesiology. She also served as associate director of philanthropy at Wayne State University before joining the University of Arizona in February 2017.

"I think my engineering education and work experience will help me understand the College of Engineering's constituents and how they're wired," Singletary said. "I love technology and how it helps solve problems; I love working with people even more."

"We're thrilled to be growing our team," Puerta Edson said. "LaToya's primary responsibility will be to expand leadership giving and the College's da Vinci Circle. As someone with a background in engineering who is also a fundraiser, she is perfect for the job."

Singletary is married to Christopher Singletary, a football recruiter for Arizona Athletics. The couple has two young boys.
