Mining engineering competition explains origin of holes in giant rocks outside Old Main on the UA campus.
Students from the department of mining and geological engineering held their annual rock-drilling competition March 25. Students bored into a 20-ton rock outside Old Main for 3 minutes to see how deep they could get.
In keeping with tradition, winners from the men's and women's competitions were tossed into the fountain outside Old Main.
