The UA Engineering Lego Robotics Outreach Club, aka RoboClub, featured on Arizona Public Media Nov. 17.

Roboclub members Mahdi Ganji and Gordon Bates took their Lego robots into the "Arizona Illustrated" studio to explain how engineering studies stimulate creativity. Club members work to get young students excited about the field of engineering by building and demonstrating models made from every kid's familiar plaything, Lego.

RoboClub is run by UA Engineering students and faculty. Its mission is to promote robotics, mechatronics, science and technology at all grade levels. The clubs goals are:

  • To develop curricula based on the Lego Mindstorm kits that meet the state of Arizona standards for science, math and technology.
  • To volunteer in local classrooms to help educators teach the curriculum, give demonstrations and encourage excitement about engineering.
  • To encourage engineering from a young age and to encourage group problem solving.
  • To pursue research projects related to Lego for education and technology.
  • To have fun with it!

The club is hosted by the UA aerospace and mechanical engineering department, and its faculty advisor is professor Eniko Enikov.

The LEGO Robotics Outreach Club started in the summer of 2008.
