UA Students Show Off Inventions at Engineering Design Day

Engineering seniors show off two semesters of hard work in the form of coffee-brewing, grasshopper-catching and lifesaving devices.

Future engineers showed off their design projects at the University of Arizona's 17th annual Engineering Design Day on Monday, April 29.

Over 600 students presented their inventions to industry sponsors, judges and the public.

One group of inventors spoke to News 4 Tucson about the technology they created that alerts bicycle riders when a vehicle is approaching.

"The main focus of our system was the software," said electrical and computer engineering student Ruben Purdy. "We're focused on how to get a network that can take a lot of compute into a really small platform, and to have it be able to run on a bike."

Students showcased 118 inventions at the event.
