Jennifer McIntosh, assistant professor in the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources, and two of her students won awards at the Geological Society of America Conference Oct. 5-9 in Houston, Texas.

Kyle Brown and Brittney Bates, both master’s students in Hydrology and Water Resources, were the students who received prizes. Brown won the Hydrogeology Division Student Research Grant Award for his work on “Sr isotopes as a tracer of groundwater mixing between agriculturally contaminated irrigation waters and regional groundwaters in the Saddle Mountains Basalt Aquifer, central Washington.”

Bates won the Coal Geology Division Antoinette Lierman Medlin Scholarship Award for her work on “Effects of nutrient availability on metabolic pathways for coalbed methane generation in the Powder River Basin.”

McIntosh won the Coal Geology Division Best Paper Award for her work on “Coupled hydrology and biogeochemistry of Paleocene-Eocene coal beds, northern Gulf of Mexico.” McIntosh also won this award in 2007.
