Arizona Public Media program features engineering students and their flying robots.

Seniors and other students of the University of Arizona College of Engineering displayed their creativity and problem solving ability during Engineering Design Day 2011, the college's annual multi-discipline showcase and senior engineering project competition. This team from the UA Aerial Robotics Club came away with a prize from their remarkable invention, and this is their appearance on the television program Arizona Illustrated.

UA Engineering students Chris Poole, Malcolm Gibson, and Hans Hony are part of the team that developed a custom unmanned aerial vehicle called the AVATAR (Aerial Vehicle for Autonomous Target Acquisition and Recognition). Equipped with LAARK, a sophisticated avionics system that includes an advanced autopilot, powerful onboard computer, and vision software capable of automatically detecting ground targets, the AVATAR/LAARK system is ready to take the team to national competition in June 2011.
