Three Summer Camps Are Offered by UA Engineering in 2012

March 15, 2012
Two popular summer day camps using Lego robotics and one residential summer camp designed specifically for aspiring engineers in high school are now taking applications.

Do you like Legos? Do you like robots? Then the University of Arizona College of Engineering has two summer camps you're going to love.

Lego NXT Mindstorm Robots, like the ones featured on the Science City main stage at this year's Festival of Books in Tucson, Ariz., are part of two Lego-based summer camps in 2012 from the UA College of Engineering.

The UA Lego Robotics Summer Workshops are two-day workshops that explore the assembly and functions of Lego NXT Mindstorm robots, controlled by Labview software. Sessions for students in grades 4 through 8 are on Mondays and Tuesdays and run from May 14 to July 25, 2012.

Sessions for students in grades 9 through 11 are on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning May 17 and running through July 25, 2012. The workshops are held in the UA Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Building and are presented by the UA Lego Robotics Outreach Club, more popularly known as UA RoboClub. The cost is $60 per two-day workshop and seats are limited. Seats can be reserved at http://roboclub.arizona.edu.

UA Summer Engineering Robotics Camp, presented by Burr-Brown-Texas Instruments, is designed to attract qualified students in grades 6 through 8 to consider engineering as a career option. The weeklong day camp begins Monday, June 11, 2012, and the fee is $350 for the week. Seats are limited, and prospective engineering students can download applications atwww.engineering.arizona.edu/future or call 520.621.4018.

The UA Summer Engineering Academy is a weeklong residential camp -- meaning that students actually live in a university dorm for the week -- held on the University of Arizona campus. The first of the three weeklong sessions is open to students in grades 9 and 10, and runs from June 3 to June 8, 2012. Two sessions for students in grades 11 and 12 begin June 10 and June 17, 2012.

The Summer Engineering Academy fee is $485 for the week and aspiring engineers who desire the UA College of Engineering experience can review requirements and download applications atwww.engineering.arizona.edu/future or call 520.621.4018.
