Support UA Civil Engineering and Win a Signed Wildcat Basketball!

Nov. 2, 2014
Civil Engineering students kick off hoop season by raffling a basketball signed by UA men’s basketball coach Sean Miller and this season’s team.

The UA student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers is hosting the society’s Pacific Southwest Conference in April 2015, and is raising funds to support the massive logistical task that lies ahead.

The drawing for the signed ball, plus a "This Is Arizona Engineering" t-shirt and some basketball posters, will be held in the Civil Engineering courtyard on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20, and are available from Therese Lane in Civil Engineering: 621-6563 or theresel@email.arizona.edu.

More than 1,000 attendees are expected at the annual student-organized conference that brings together 18 universities from the Southwest region to compete in three days of technical and fun competitions.

Student teams at the conference are required to design, build and race a concrete canoe; design, build and test a steel bridge; and build a geowall, a reinforced retaining wall commonly used by civil engineers.

The general aim of the conference is to give civil engineering students hands-on, practical experience and to build leadership skills while promoting the benefits of ASCE membership.

The basketball to be raffled has been signed by the 2014-2015 UA Men’s Basketball Team and by coach Sean Miller, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The photo shows creative writing freshman Sierra Lindsay with the signed ball and certificate.
